An individual who spiked candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

The legal representative continued: "This year his family member had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.

She stated the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities once more.

She stated the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
